Anamaria Gavrila comments on the environmental stamp

The “first registration tax” was replaced with the environmental stamp, through a government emergency ordinance that has entered into force on March the 15th.

Anamaria Gavrila, Senior Associate at Dragne & Asociatii, commented for Wall-Street.ro on the subject of the new tax. She stated that the environmental stamp seems to violate the free circulation of goods in the European Union, and the “polluter pays” principle of law. She showed that the buyer of the car has to pay the tax, and not the seller, who has been responsible for polluting, and also that the tax is lower for more polluting cars that use old technologies.
