Companies active in the services sector may pay a lump-sum tax starting the second quarter of this year (March 2013). This might reduce the administrative burden stemming from the payment of the profit tax, as stated by the Romanian Government officials. The tax will be applied for certain locations in the services industry such as bed and breakfasts, bars, restaurants or beauty salons.
Delia Bosman, Deputy Managing Partner Dragne & Asociatii, and Mircea Maier, Senior Associate, commented on this initiative for Business24.ro. They explained that the Government is trying to increase state budget revenues, while also reducing tax evasion. However, the measure will have to be carefully implemented, in a manner which does not create excessive burden for tax-payers.
