Ion Dragne, Managing Partner at Dragne & Asociatii, was interviewed by the business publication Ziarul Financiar on the new law regarding the restitution of properties sized by the Communist regime, and on the involvement of local law firms in such cases.
Mr. Dragne stated that the number of legal files dealing with property restitution might be of roughly 70-80,000 in Bucharest, and that could mean an estimate income of 20 million euros/year for the lawyers in charge with these files.
Ion Dragne also commented on the restitution of forest land, as Romania is the only country of the former Communist block to engage in a complete restitution/compensation of properties, including forests. He explained some of the difficulties arising from such restitutions, and expressed his concern over this controversial issue.
