The Competition Council has authorized the transaction by which Auchan Romania acquires 20 Real stores in Romania from the METRO Group. The competition authority has authorized this transaction with the condition to observe certain commitments voluntary assumed by the parties involved on the two markets, respectively Craiova and Targu Mures. Thus, Auchan has engaged not to increase selling prices by more than 5% compared to the average price of other stores for a period of 3 years. It also assumed the obligation not to open new stores on the two markets for a period of 5 years.
Stelian Garofil, Deputy Managing Partner Dragne & Asociatii, commented for the business publication Ziarul Financiar on the competition issues of the transaction, explaining how the Competition Council monitors these kinds of economic concentrations and how it ensures a normal competitive environment.
